I am attempting to add another instructor at my institution (in my department) to my canvas class as a teacher.
I sent her an invite via the email option and got the message that the invite has been sent. However, she didn't get it. I attempted to re-send the invite, this time using her login ID, but I got the message that she had already been added to the course.
Her name is NOT on my list of enrollees in that section, however (even as a pending invite), and she still hasn't gotten the invite in her email or on the canvas dashboard.
Note, she has been using canvas at our college for a long time, so I am sure her account is validated.
Hello @erica_wagner
Thank you for contacting the Instructure Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with adding another user to your course. It sounds like you've explored all avenues of adding them manually. It is strange that you do not see them yet you receive a message stating they are pending - which they likely are. Have you tried basic trouble shooting like clearing cache, trying another browser, device or wifi? If you cannot see it, you may want to contact your school directly to confirm or get them added. Additionally, if you have permissions to add them then you could speak with Canvas Support who can look at the details of your course and the user.
Because of the complexity of the issue, and the concerns for privacy, it would be best if you contacted Canvas Support directly to pinpoint the source of the issue and provide a resolution:
Yes, the instructor is not getting the email invite either, and it's not in their spam folder. I'll try those other things you mentioned, but since it appears to not be coming through on her end either, it appears something else might be going on.
Thanks!
Erica
At my community college, only the instructors of record can be added as "Teachers" to a Canvas course. This is District policy, and the purpose for not allowing colleagues to be added as "Teachers" is to protect student privacy. Colleagues can be added as "Designers" in order to access course content. In order to add a colleague as a Designer to my course shell, I need to contact my college's Canvas Administrator. I can't do it myself.
My guess is that your issue is not a technical one, but rather a policy issue. You'll need to work with your school's Canvas Administrator to have your colleague added to your course as a "Teacher" (or in another capacity.)
Does your institution use any kind of a firewall or security software? Is it possible the email is just "held up" in a filter? I don't know why the person wouldn't show up as pending, but maybe there is some delay in getting the email verification back to Canvas, too.
