Are Students Notified Every Time There Is A New Comment On An Announcement?

Hi, Community!
Students receive an email notification when I publish a class announcement. OK so far.
Here’s my question: if I *allow comments* in class announcements, are students also notified by email every time someone comments or replies to a comment?
If so, I could imagine a bunch of “thanks!” or “cool!” emails would come across to students as spam causing them to disable notifications (or could they do this?).
Thanks for your help in advance!
Dan

Hi @barnettda , the Canvas Notifications resource document indicates that replies to announcement are sent to the creator of the announcement according to their preference for "Announcement Created By You" (off by default).
Announcements display the bookmark icon at the top right that signifies subscribing to discussions. But it does not appear to function, and documentation does not mention it as an option.
It does not seem likely that students receive notifications about announcement replies.
