[Rubrics] Rubric Export

It would be great if canvas would allow a rubric to be exported to a word doc, csv format or pdf so that rubrics can be used in class instruction or provided to students with assignment description and syllabi. Currently, a rubric can be printed but not downloaded so it cannot be shared digitally without recreating the document, which, is a waste of time.

My rubrics are a thing of beauty. They are an art form unto themselves. They approach the Platonic Ideal of Rubric in their awesomeness. I'd like to be able to share them with rubric-averse colleagues to show them the many excellences of a well-crafted rubric.

Exporting the RESULTS are key.  I feel like the recommendation/vote and some other comments are just about the rubric itself.  I need the results as summative data for institutional learning objectives.  All students are evaluated for written and spoken arguments.

I'd like to piggyback on this idea in a couple of ways.  @sarah_sours ‌ waxed poetic about rubrics, so the idea https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12350-simplify-rubrics-look-and-operation is perfect for her and all of us who appreciate the beauty of well composed rubrics.

Secondly, at its most basic level, ideas like this and https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12874-text-conversion-to-qti-for-bulk-question-import deal with interoperability‌ and efficient use of data already created/collected.

With respect to this idea, imagine all the http://rubistar.4teachers.org  rubrics that could be imported into Canvas as well as exported for classroom instruction, parent reference, etc.

The https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12874-text-conversion-to-qti-for-bulk-question-import idea above applies the same utilitarian strategy to questions and question banks.

Questions? Comments? Thanks!

In addition to the ability to download rubric content, I'd really love to be able to download the scores from the rubrics so I can look at statistics from individual criteria across all students in a course. In other words, if one of the criteria addresses proofreading/grammar/spelling, etc., it would be really helpful to get an average score of all students for that topic.

For educational research purposes, I need to be able to download graded rubrics from canvas (ideally in an excel file). I think this issue needs to be addressed for canvas to keep its relevance in a time where data is of extreme importance. If you "vote up" this idea, please also "vote up" the similar idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1275-download-assignment-comments-and-completed-rubrics . Also I recommend that you "vote up" https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/3311-export-aggregate-rubric-scores-to-identify-strengths-and-... . Also please advertise this to other faculty to help get this idea further supported. It is pathetic that this has been clearly discussed for over three years and it has not been addressed.

Any progress on this?

Hi Kevin,

I do not work for Instructure, so I am not sure about progress being made.  I am dealing with the same frustration of not being able to export a rubric.

There is not a specific priority related to this feature idea right now.  You can keep tabs on priorities on https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas

I am also looking for this functionality for data collection in our accreditation process.

Greetings all,

I was hoping to find a solution to two challenges that would be solved by exporting a rubric that I created in Canvas--which sound like frustrations that others have had for several years as well. If I have missed a newer answer somewhere, I would appreciate a link to it.

  1. I'd like to be able to download aggregate rubric data so that I can see trends in student performance and how the rubric is performing.
  2. I'd like to keep a stable copy of the Rubric (outside of Canvas) for my development records as a PDF. Copy and Paste from Canvas to a Word doc is a bit messy. If you've got a work-around, I'd love to hear it!
