Have you ever been writing content for a page and realized that you need another new page? Wouldn't it be great if you could quickly create a new blank page as a placeholder, but continue editing the current page? For example, when I'm developing the content for a module I start by writing the Introduction page. That page will contain a list of the topics the student needs to work through. It's a page where I can gather my thoughts about how to structure the module. As I'm typing, I'd like to be able to insert a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. A blank page will be created and the link inserted, but I won't leave the editor. This will let me quickly get my thoughts down without breaking the flow. I'd like to be able to do this for quizzes, assignments, and just able any other Canvas content. You can see this effect if you've ever deleted a page that you had a link to. You can click on the link, but it takes you to a screen where you can create a new page.
Here's how I think it could work: In the RCE, highlight some text. Pull down the "link" menu and select Course Link. The slide-out menu would appear as usual. If I want to add a new page, there would be a button labeled "New Page" or "New Page Placeholder". Clicking on it would let me type in the page name. By default, the entry box would be populated with the text I highlighted, perhaps auto-capitalized. When I press OK or Enter, the slide-out would disappear and the link would be created in the RCE. But I remain in the RCE so I don't interrupt the page I was working on. If I didn't highlight any text in the RCE, the act of creating the new page placeholder would automatically insert the name of the new page. This is similar to how the Course Link menu item currently works. This could easily be extended to adding new placeholder assignments, discussions, and quizzes, too. There would just be appropriate buttons in the slide-out menu.
