Pass Outcome Results from New Quizzes to Canvas

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

Standards based graded (a.k.a. Outcomes) is becoming more and more prevalent in education.  We use formative and summative assessments to determine whether outcomes (standards) are met.  Quizzes.next is the PERFECT tool to assess outcomes.  However, Canvas is our grade system and if we are grading based on outcomes, the outcome information from Quizzes.Next MUST be passed back to Canvas.  At this point we have to check outcomes that are aligned with assignments and those that are aligned with Quizzes.Next separately.  That just is counterintuitive when Quizzes.Next will soon be the Quiz tool in Canvas.  Please, please vote this up so it can be done soon!!!  The capability is there!  It just needs to make the priority list.

Here are some pictures describing the request/problem.  We just need the outcomes that are in Quizzes.Next to also show up in the Mastery Gradebook since that is where we are checking the Outcomes.  At the present time, they are not passed back to Canvas and cannot be viewed as being "met" in Canvas.

See below...

Here are the outcomes for the quiz:

And Mastery Gradebook shows the same picture that is above.

This is essential if canvas is to be taken up by more schools. HSPA is alighthouse school at the forefront of integrating canvas. Other schools across the state of NSW are looking to HSPA's experiences to judge if they will invest in this LMS. Quizzes with full functionality ( not happening at present) is a significant selling feature. Not having the funcionsllity requested is a serious disincentive to schools looking to buy canvas.

+1 Please update this for new quizzes. It would improve use and functionality for teachers and students.

Given the ever-increasing demand for relevant data for informed decision-making and planning, integrating this functionality would be of immense benefit for educators and by extension, their students.

This would be a significant improvement.

This would definitely be beneficial for students and teachers alike who use mastery, not to mention a massive time saver for teachers. All signs point to higher use of mastery learning so having this option would be a total SHOWSTOPPER.

Please consider updating quizzes to feed into mastery learning outcomes. It will save time and increase functionality for all.

Just made a new quiz, was proud to figure out how to assign outcomes to each relevant question, but in order to see how the kids did for mastery levels, I have to go into the quiz itself through the Build button, and then look at reports. That's one step too many, and it needs to pass through to the Learning Mastery gradebook.

I am hoping that this feature will soon be turned on for New Quizzes.  Please take note that K-12 will have new STAAR question types that are only offered in NEW Quizzes.  We really need to be able to see the Outcomes scores in the Learning Mastery Gradebook, not just the Outcome analysis report - which by the way isn't working correctly.  Students who have different questions tied t o different outcomes get the same score across the report.

  • Outcomes scores from New Quizzes can only be viewed in the Outcomes Analysis report in New Quizzes. Outcomes scores cannot be viewed in the Learning Mastery Gradebook.

+1  Please take a moment to understand the need for Outcomes, New Quizzes and Learning Mastery Gradebook in the K-12 setting.  As we analyze data in preparation for state mandated testing, it is ever so important that teachers have the ability to know where there kids are mastering standards and content with in New Quizzes.  In the state of Texas our state standardized test will be moving to new question types  in an online testing environment,  which are covered in New Quizzes so it makes sense for our teachers to build their assessments there.  Building in Classic Quizzes is time consuming and not beneficial for teachers long term.  Even with the hopes of it coming across in March or June of 2022, it still is falling short of what teachers are needing. With COVID and Virtual Learning in 2020-2021 data has become more important than ever to be able to track student performance and growth over time.

The only work around at this time is to use Classic Quizzes and using Outcomes with the Learning Mastery Gradebook.  If you use New Quizzes then you have to use the Outcomes Analysis report.

Linking with the site wide Mastery Learning system is a no brainer. It MUST happen. But there are other issues with new quizzes - eg not being able to share across institutions in Commons, not being able to use the course links feature within a page editor to link to a new quiz. It is as though new quizzes is half developed a side program that doesn't integrate with Canvas very well. Lots of work to get it it to the quality we are accustomed to in Canvas before the 2022 migration.
