[Gradebook Settings] Capping grade on second attempts
Use case:
An instructor wants to allow an additional attempt on multiple assignments but wants the grade to be capped at 80% of the score on the second attempt with the highest grade standing. Currently, the best workaround I can identify is to copy the assignment and place it in a 0% weighted category. The instructor would then have to compare, calculate, and override the original grade manually. The instructor currently has over 300 students in the introductory course. Doing this for over 300 students for each assignment would be extremely time intensive. Allowing an additional attempt on the original assignment would still create a manual cluster for the instructor and could confuse students who could see their new grade before the instructor has an opportunity to adjust it manually.
Solution:
Allow this functionality within the quiz settings, or, within the late policy in the grade book settings, allow for a deduction by submission within a certain assignment category.
