Since the deploy on 2024-01-17 that added the "Submitted" date column to the individual gradebook (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Releases/Canvas-Deploy-Notes-2024-01-17/ta-p/591534#toc-hI...), it has been overly cluttered, forcing the activity "Name" column to be squished to near illegible. Here's a screenshot example of the issue (global includes are disabled and, bare in mind, this is an example not an actual students gradebook):
We have implemented a few changes to our CSS to mitigate the issue (we decreased the width of the right-side column, which we had previously increased for readability/cleanliness), made the "Due" column wrappable, and reduced the padding on the cells of the table (same example with our CSS enabled):
These changes alone still looks clean and reasonably sized, while also leaving the "Name" column legible and decrease the overall height of the gradebook by ~44%. Another option to help: reclaim all that whitespace after the right-side column.
