[Gradebook] Grade merge for purposes of equal grading in differentiated activities and PBL

To properly modify assignments and quizzes multiple versions must be created. This can cause issues in grading particularly when your instance is synced via an SIS. Why not have the ability to merge assignments in the grade book that allows for students completing modified activities to share the grade to the assignment to be synced without having duplicates in the SIS grade book.

This helps with differentiation as well as PBL or choice-based assignments. This option would also mitigate the issue of the inability to assign assignments and quizzes by a pre-created group of students instead of entire sections or individual students.

This would especially benefit instructors who cross-list since they have larger numbers of students to differentiate with.

Differentiation/inclusion for SPED students and for PBL requires a single grade in the grade book for the activity/learning goals. For a user to differentiate fully, differentiated activities must be allowed inside of an assignment OR the ability to merge activities in the grade book need to be allowed.

If you cross-list courses, this multiplies the difficulty. And assigning to non-section groups aren't even possible in quizzes and external tools.

Mastery Paths is great but to differentiate inside of a single assignment/grade is not possible. Canvas activities also, in my case with Infinite Campus, do not allow grade passback when activities are assigned to individual students. So no assigning to some and not to others. It is not workable in a class with SPED students who need modified assignments.

Being in a differentiated classroom this would really be helpful. There is currently no way outside of Mastery Paths to differentiate a single assignment. Tried grouping, assigning to individuals but then it will not merge to the gradebook causing an even bigger mess. So much of Canvas is helpful but very little helps with differentiating instruction in this way. With 147 students and multiple types of modifications needed, this is necessary. Some need extra time, others additional notes, others complete answers and currently there is NO way to make that happen for assignments.
