[Discussions] discussion post without comments

Problem statement:

I would like students to post discussion answers but not have the ability to respond. For example, I would pose a question to the students about a book and they would respond and could read each others' answers but would not be able to respond.

Proposed solution:

There should be an option button when posting a new discussion question.

Thank you for your suggestion! It's an interesting idea, but I have marked it as "Will not consider" because it's not in line with our current goals of making discussions more engaging and collaborative. We still have a record of this request and it's something we may reconsider in the future.

That's unfortunate. As the middle school level it is very difficult to get students to respond appropriately and with as many students as I have I can not monitor posts and responses. This means I can not use the discussions at all which certainly doesn't meet your goals. I wish that Canvas would consider all the levels of educators who use their products. Thanks for your response.
