Problem statement:

Most institutions have data retention policies that may or may not be relevant to Canvas content. For example, a college could mandate that all courses that are more than five years old must be purged from the LMS. As far as I'm aware, this can currently only be done by SIS import.

Proposed solution:

It would be helpful to have a data retention setting in the Admin menu that can take care of content deletion automatically on a rolling, continuous basis. This would make it easier for Canvas admins to be compliant with their institution's data retention policies and would alleviate the information overload experienced by instructors who have large numbers of past courses they no longer need.
