Use AI to Generate QTI ZIP File Content?

I am working to have an AI LLM (ChatGPT 3.5 or better) generate QTI 2.1 XML that I can copy-paste into text files then ZIP and upload to Canvas to create Item Banks in New Quizzes.

I have been successful in getting ChatGPT to generate a set of test questions from a raw lecture transcript and put the questions into QTI 2.1 format.  For Canvas to upload the questions successfully, however, there must be additional files in the ZIP file.  I will be working to get ChatGPT to produce code for those as well.

Not needing to reinvent the wheel, has anyone already done the R&D on this?  Success with prompts? Failure with lessons learned?

Any insights will be appreciated.

Regards,

Keith

Hi Keith,

Have you had luck on this? I was just asking ChatGPT to do this and I stumped it.

Thanks,

Hi Keith and Kim,

I also tried this. I managed to create a QTI file (basically a zip file including an XML file with questions and IMSmanifest.xml, but it didn't work with New Quizzes.

Please update here if you have a solution.

Thanks,

Beste

there are two completely incompatible IMS QTI standards maybe your file is adhering to the wrong one and is therefore not processed by New Quizzes.

Dear Adam,

I appreciate your response. Yes, I specifically asked for either QTI 1.2 or QTI 2.1. In our case, classic quizzes are deactivated. However, if I reactivate them, the QTI file works. You are right; most likely, the XML files are missing something. But I could not figure it out yet!
