Canvas Data Portal API and getting files

We are currently looking at using the Canvas Data Portal API to get a subset of the files.  Then import those files into a database and build reports off of this.

Looking through the specifications from Instructure on this, it seems really daunting.  Has anybody else attempted this?  What technologies were used?

I've never had the chance to use a RESTful API before, so any resources would be helpful.

If you are talking about a data warehouse scenario, we've considered it. I agree, it's daunting.
