What’s New In Canvas Catalog
Yes, Arthur. Your grandchildren will instead someday shop on a digital slate like this one here. For over 100 years, the Sears Catalog provided solutions for every member of the household - from clothes and housewares to farm equipment and even mail-order houses you could build yourself.
The Sears Catalog was well-known as the premier source for generations of kids who thoughtfully built out annual Christmas wishlists. Adults, too, enjoyed browsing tools, sewing machines and other wonders, daydreaming of the perfect shed, garage, living room or appliance.
Since 2013, Canvas Catalog has been a platform to support the delivery of self-enrollment open courses. Used by learning organizations of all shapes and sizes, Catalog serves as a vibrant, easy-to-use gateway to professional learning, personal interest courses and much, much more.
Each month, Instructure publishes Release Notes, providing an overview of new features and functionality for Canvas LMS, Canvas Catalog and all of its products. This month, there are some great features announced for Canvas Catalog.
While you might not comb through Release Notes as carefully as you did the Sears Catalog, this week’s updates are not to be missed!
And if you have wishlist items of your own, please join the Instructure Community and participate in the conversations happening in the Business & Government Users Group!
Course Recommendations (Version 1)
Previously, Catalog admin could not draw extra attention to popular/trending listings except by manually determining which listings had the most enrollments and manually ordering them first/early in their Catalog home pages.
Now, Catalog admin can set popular/trending listings to automatically display at the top of the Catalog (or Subcatalog) home page, drawing extra attention and driving enrollments.
Note: This is V1 of Catalog recommendations, appearing only on the Catalog home page. V2 will feature recommendations on the listings, too!
New Custom Certificate Fields
Previously, Catalog admins could not include User Defined Fields in custom Catalog certificates. Now, they can!
Previously, Catalog admins could not include a variable for Enrollment Date in custom Catalog certificates. Now, they can!
Previously, Catalog admins would have to have a deep understanding of HTML/CSS to be successful. Now, they can view a template of default code when choosing Custom Certificate - the code template makes customer certificate design much easier.
Registration Confirmation Emails
Admins can now click a “Resend Confirmation” button next to a user’s name to resend a registration confirmation email.
Admins can view real-time notifications of the outcome of the registration confirmation email.
- Success: “The confirmation email has been resent successfully.”
- User activated: “The user has already been activated.”
- Failure: “An error occurred. Please try again later.”
