i want to use attendance and i followed the instructions to enable it
this allows students to see the attendance
is there a way to hide it from students (isn't this info. that can't be shared)
if i drag it down to the hide section it disables it

Hi @gvarholick Welcome to the Canvas Community!
Yes, when you enable Roll Call/Attendance students can see it in the course navigation menu, but just like Grades, they only see their own attendance and nobody else's.

Just an update: Enabling Attendance in the Course Navigation menu does not enable an attendance page for students. This can be confusing, since the lack of a hidden icon normally indicates something is available to students.
@james_whalley ...
You are correct that the "Attendance" course navigation button does not display for students in Canvas. This is mentioned in the Guide, How do I use the Roll Call Attendance tool in a co... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com). (Refer to the "Note" under the heading "Open Attendance".)
Yes, but for those who have been using the tool for a bit, they may remember that Attendance used to show to students in the menu when enabled. I think the use of the "hidden" icon would be useful next to the navigation link since it is not visible to students.
Fair enough. When the "Attendance" course navigation button is disabled by the instructor, the button isn't even visible on the course navigation. But, if an instructor enables the "Attendance" course navigation button, it does show on the course navigation...but without the crossed-out eye icon. Maybe creating a Feature Idea would be a good idea to see how much interest there is in getting this behavior changed? I know there is a "kitchen sink" Feature Idea already created for the Attendance tool...located at Attendance Overhaul.
After setting up "Attendance" and checking that the navigation button wasn't visible to students, I was surprised when a student asked me about his attendance percentage. Even though students couldn't see the details of their attendance and I'm not counting attendance as part of the grade, there is a column in the grade report that shows attendance percentage. That has to be hidden, if you don't want students to see it, which was my intention.
