Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
What is your favorite part of Canvas? What can't you do without in your classroom? What tool or learning activity has transformed your classroom for the better?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Although this probably doesn't answer the question as specifically as you'd like, my favorite thing about Canvas is having the ability to connect activities, discussions, and quizzes directly to the gradebook. It saves so much time, and I can efficiently provide scores and feedback to students.
Magic Marker is an amazing formative assessment tool that I find invaluable. I am better able to keep track of individual student's progress and it makes writing content-rich progress reports much easier.
We couldn't do without the discussions! The students are asking for more and creating ideas to add discussions in all subject areas. They love to share their knowledge, to share their opinions and comment on classmates writing.
I, too, find the discussions such an eye-opening moment for students. In particular, students who are perhaps not as vocal during class find this alternative way to participate very liberating. I find I have been shocked, in a positive way, by the way that providing an alternative approach to showing interest and engagement, some students will light up in a way that hasn't been seen before.
Also, the Speed Grader functionality has infinite potential in terms of being able to change the way I provide feedback and complete the grading process.
I'm a bit of an interloper here as I'm at a Higher Ed institution. I joined the group to offer assistance where possible. That said, I couldn't help but respond to this one. The absolute best thing about Canvas is the people working on it. Support, Engineering, Community, you're all amazing. Did I mention the support is amazing?
Aww! Thanks Adam! Made my day
Thanks, Adam!
We're online only, so we don't have a "classroom", but we love the audio/video assignment feedback. It's the next best thing to face to face interaction and our students often leave audio feedback if they're younger or have trouble typing/gathering their thoughts. Our teachers love it because they get to see and hear from their students directly.

One of my favorite features is how Canvas enables students to work at their own pace. We use the prerequisites on every task to walk students in a direction and then it's up to them on how fast or slow they go. Student-centric learning!
That is the power of a learning management system! I love to see my students go as fast and as far as they can!
A few years ago, when I was not a Canvas employee, I created this slide deck in order to answer just this question (a bit dated now).
