Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Is anyone using Salesforce to maintain student records? We are looking to create an API or connection between salesforce and canvas.
Hello, @coulton_woodger .
We use Salesforce Community Cloud, but not as our Student Information System of record. We aggregate data from various sources, including Canvas. Canvas has a very robust API. You can find the documentation at Canvas LMS REST API Documentation.
If you just need to feed a small subset of data of data into Canvas, you may find the CSV SIS Import easier to program. See SIS Import Format Documentation - Canvas LMS REST API Documentation.
You can find some info. about our Salesforce implementation at One Stop Shop: Enhance the Student Experience with Community Cloud - YouTube (nothing too technical).
Best,
Nelson
Any luck @coulton_woodger ? Can we get an update?
Yes, we do, but we have to implement it first.
Hi all,
Posting in case others have the same question. We have built a SIS & eCommerce platform that integrates Canvas with, among other things, CRM systems like Salesforce. No need to build your custom integration anymore!
Hope this helps.

Just wanted to provide an update. I did a bunch of digging back in spring 2021 trying to find options for integrating Canvas and Salesforce. Hit a bunch of deadends, especially development teams were so in demand at the time (and probably still). We ended up going with a no/low-code integration platform as a service (iPaaS) solution called Cyclr. They have the connectors to the APIs, and you build the flow visually, with boxes and arrows. You do still need a deep understanding of the structure in Canvas and in Salesforce and be able to read the API documentation, but you don't need a lot of technical/code knowledge. I've never worked with APIs and it took me awhile but I was able to figure it out—in large part because of the excellent documentation in this community! It is an option to hire them to build your flows, but our context was so weird--and we also had to figure out what to build out in Salesforce and how to incorporate it into our existing flows--that it seemed like a puzzle our internal team (read me and our main Salesforce administrator) has to solve. There were a few other no-code iPaaS option we identified, but Cyclr already had some endpoints for Canvas built (and now they have more!). Our experience has been that the documentation is a little lacking and the tool could be more intuitive, but the support has been great.
