Perusall assignment with Module requirements?

Hi,

I'm using Perusall integration with Canvas, and it looks like it is set up correctly. What I wanted was for students to complete the Perusall assignment before progressing to the next step in the module.

I set up a requirement to "Submit the assignment" in the Canvas module, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way for students to "submit" a Perusall assignment. 

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make this work?

I've never used Perusall myself, but I know that @dhulsey has had some experience with it...so let's see what he has to say.  Good luck to you!

@amorriso , I believe a submit requirement would be fulfilled when Perusall (or any external tool) sends the grade to the Canvas grade book. With Perusall, you can send the grades when the assignment is due, when you manually release them in Perusall, or have the grade dynamically update to Canvas as the student works. I use the last option so that students can see their progress as they annotate, but this may not work for you if you want the student to finish annotating before proceeding. Does that help?

It's not clear if that works, because Perusall takes up to 1-2 hours to sync back to Canvas, as far as I could tell. I think students might get impatient if that was the case. I sort of tried it on the first day, and couldn't tell if it was working or not, so then I ended up switching the Canvas assignment mode to "Mark as Done" so students could progress.
