Due Date Templates Per Section

Our college runs many programs on an Open Entry/ Open Exit basis, with students beginning programs at various times. I have some instructors who would like to populate a course section automatically with due dates that apply to the student's start date, if that makes any sense. So depending on the day the student began the course, they want to automatically have certain assignments due on certain dates (counting forward from the day the student began). Does anyone know how to do this, or if this is a feature I am just missing??

Going in to each assignment to create a separate due date for a single student for an entire year-long program is a little tedious, so I'm wondering if there's a function that I don't know about that allows me to build out a sequence of due dates for a single section, and then copy those and apply them to a section that begins at a later time. It would also be helpful if they could manually make updates to accommodate for vacation/holiday weeks.

 @epulham  , I like the idea you are asking about.  The only "solution" I can think of is to have different sections in each class (this is an administrative option).  Then each assignment can have a different due date based on section.

I'm sure someone who has used Canvas longer than I have will have a better answer.  Best of luck!
