Can you assign an External tool (Google Drive document) to a group?

Hi there! 

    I'm a science teacher and we often do group labs. I've migrated all our assignments to Google Docs as that is what my district uses. Rather than have to keep track of who is working with whom is is possible to set the lab as a group assignment and let the students self select their groups? This way only one student needs to submit the final lab,  yet when I grade it all group members will get that grade.

Thank you for the suggestion Kona. Unfortunately the guide you attached specifically says its not for graded assignments which is the bulk of my coursework. I appreciate the suggestion!

I too am a science teacher and need this same option.  Have you figured anything out?  Collaborations work but they don't go through the speed grader.

If I make it a google cloud assignment I lose the "group assignment" option.  If I use the group solution, I lose the Google Cloud assignment option.  ugh.
