Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Hi, I am a teacher at a PK-4th grade school that is new to Canvas. Each child will have a homeroom course as well as courses for their specials - music, art, science, etc. Is there any way to set up links on their homeroom course home page that they can click on to get to the home pages of their specials courses? Thanks!
Hi katie.kunin and welcome to the Canvas community! I am thinking about your idea and I am going to tag stefaniesanders, @Chris_Hofer , and @kona also as I am sure they would give good input.
Here are some ideas that I have.
1) It might be a good idea to add your co-teacher a an instructor to your course that way she can post directly to your course. Do you know how to add an instructor to your course? Do you have the rights to do that? If not, then you need to ask your Canvas admin to do so.
2) Canvas recently added some very helpful features which makes it easier for teachers to share and copy content with each other.
a) One is called the Direct Share feature, which means that teachers of different courses can share content with each other. The content would be sent by your co-teacher and you would find it in your Canvas Inbox.
b) The other feature is the "Copy To" feature. This feature allows teachers to copy content from one course to another course that he/she teaches. So if you add the other teacher as an instructor to your course, the teacher could just copy the content to your course and you would publish it. This would save a lot of time so students and parents won't have to click links to go back and forth between different courses.
Here's some information to help you. Please know that modules cannot be shared at this point in time. Hopefully that's something that will be made possible in the future.

How can I share all of these with a different Canvas account that I have? I have a Canvas account at my school and one with our State Dept. of Education. The State Dept. gave me a full course in the account with them. How to I move it to my school account? Thanks so much.
You can import the content from one course to the other. Please reply if you have any additional questions.
Does each student have the same specials course? If so, you can copy the URL from the other course and make a link (probably within a button for PK-4). If the list of specials varies by student, then you should look for other ways to accomplish this.
One option is to just teach them how to use the Dashboard, where this content can already exist a single click away (depending on their dashboard view). This will help them later on for teachers who don't have the links in their homeroom courses.
