Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I need some help please! I created a canvas account in order to track what my 6h grader is doing. I do not think I created it as a parent account. I do not see the option for "observing" in the settings where it should be located. I watched the youtube instruction video on Parent Observer features. What do I do now? I know where to find the pairing code on her account, also. But, I have nowhere to enter this code on my account. Should I create a new Canvas with a different email? I would rather not have to do that. #needhelp
Hi @escalante_jessi -
You should be able to observe your student from the account you created. Unfortunately, there is a chance that the YouTube video you watched is out of date. The pairing code process is really new! Once you have your student's pairing code, from a browser go to Account then Settings then Observing. On this screen, you'll be able to click the +Student button and enter the pairing code. If you'd like visuals, the best guide is: How do I link a student to my user account as an observer?
If you still don't see this option, please reply!
Hi , Kristin. I went to my account, then settings. In the youtube video it
shows that Observing option should be under the "my badges" option but my
menu stops at my badges. I have no "observing" option.
Thank you!
Jessica

Hi Jessica -
Based on what you've shared, I think you're going to find the most success by collaborating with your local Canvas Admin. I would initiate the conversation by submitting a help ticket (How do I get help with Canvas?) When filling out the information, explain the steps you took and what you see on the screen. The district's Canvas Admin will be able to help you with your account; I just fixed an account for a parent at my school having a similar experience as you!
I wish I could share a way that would allow you to fix it on your own. You could create a new account with a different email, but that seems like an unnecessary step.
