Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I have a research project regarding the duration of time students spend using the Canvas pages to access the various activities related to their courses. I wanted to know how much time they spend using their smartphones versus laptop/desktops when accessing the Canvas pages. How can I know exactly what device(smartphone or laptop) students are using to access the canvas? Is there a way of identifying the type of device they have used to sign in to the Canvas and what specific task they have completed upon logging in?
Sincerely,
Gebremeskel
Are you looking to do this within Canvas or with more technical tools?
Device Usage in Canvas Data with Tableau

Thank you so much Robert for your help. I am just thinking of extracting the data about how much time students stay in the Canvas when they are accessing it. Then, I would import the data into the R data analytic tool for statistical analysis and comparison.
That sounds fun. I played around with R to get a chord diagram of student navigation in a course, it was very noisy. I often find myself puzzled about the best chart to use, and getting the data into that format takes the most time. Good luck!
