Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I have a quiz (that is a survey and so everyone gets 5 points for completing it) that is due tomorrow and it does not show up in the students TO DO LIST. Another quiz that gets graded does appear. Any ideas why?

Howdy @ecass ,
Thanks for posting your question. Graded quizzes (event ones with possible points of 0) show in the Course Summary, Gradebook, Calendar and To-Do List. However, I believe that practice quizzes do not display in those areas- even if they have a due date.
You can learn more about Practice Quizzes via this page: What quiz types can I create in a course?
If you are interested in making this a feature, consider adding your use story and voting up this idea: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/13801-put-everything-with-a-due-date-on-the-calendar-and-sylla...
Hope this is helpful.

Hi Sky
I came with the same question but mine is a marked quiz that is not showing up in the to do list - i can't seem to find any reason why - it has a due date but doesn't show up - any ideas why?

Three things come to mind to check.
When you say "marked quiz" you have verified this in the Quiz settings?
Who is it assigned to and whose To Do list are you looking at? If you are using differentiated assignments where you assign it to individual students, it would not show up on the Test Student view (the Test Student belongs to each section, so assigning to sections wouldn't affect this, but individual students or groups would).
Are you using grading periods and if so, is the due date in the current grading period?
Thanks James - student view had got stuck - reset and could see the quiz in the to do list
I tried a few things in my sandbox and found a possible workaround. You can create your practice quiz (I didn't place my quiz in the module, just created it on its own). Then create an assignment and in the instructions box you can make a link to your practice quiz. I did "no submission" for the submission type for the assignment, but you could just text box if they want to give you some feedback. The only downfall is that you need to manually award the points after checking who submitted the practice quiz, but it worked out for me.
I like this idea. I have been trying to come up with a way to have students get accuracy information, but record effort grades in the gradebook. I think this may work. Have you had a chance to try it out since you posted this? Any hiccups?
I assume that even though the practice quiz is linked, students and teachers can still access the practice quiz to give and observe individual question feedback????
I know this post is a couple of years old but we are running into this today (maybe) and wanted to share what we've discovered. First, I'm talking about the To Do as found in the Canvas Student app. What we are finding is that for Quizzes and Assignments, if there is an Available From date set the item will NOT show in the To Do list. Or at least not until it's past that date an available. We've got some students who missed exams because they didn't see it coming up in their To Do list. I can see how a developer might think this makes sense since it's not really To Do if it's not yet available, but on the other hand it doesn't match what shows in the List View students see in the WebUI, and it makes it difficult when a student uses the list to see what's coming up in the next couple of days.
