[ARCHIVED] Reseting Passwords for Canvas/Catalog

Hi everyone,

What is your process for resetting passwords for Catalog users in Canvas? We are currently resetting them for our Catalog students since we do not want to provide our catalog administrators the privileges to reset students passwords by providing them with account admin permissions at the root level. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Do you mean when they've forgotten their password? We direct them to the login window where they can reset it themselves. Failing that, the continuing ed registrar does have account admin privileges.

Which login screen do you direct them too? The resetting password screen is only for the "Free for Teachers" account. How do I reset my password?

Hmmm, maybe we are set up differently. Check this out:  How do I log in to my catalog account? There is a Forgot Password link in the login window. I verified this with our registrar and she said this:  "Yes, they can reset their own password.  I direct the student to type their email address at the log-on and then click Forgot Password.  Enter Username again and click Request Password.   I believe they receive an email asking to confirm the request."

How are your students registering for a course?

I agree with Carol, the students should be able to reset their own passwords through the "Forgot Password" option on the sign on page. The sign on page looks like the first image in your link to How do I reset my password? Are your students directed to a different location after they sign up for a course?

They use LDAP. A different login.

Aw, well I would love to help, but I don't know that system. I don't know how to help you with that one. You will probably have to work with your University. Good Luck!!

Currently, we reset their passwords for them since they are directed to the University's reset password which does not associate with non-university accounts/email addresses.
