Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
A teacher came by today and asked if there was a way to print a quiz. I had never done this before. I found two ways:
1.Click on Preview and print from there but it wouldn't look clean. In a pinch it would work.
1. Preview the quiz and Ctrl+P change your printer to Save as PDF and then print. The result is clean.
Any other ideas?
I'm very curious why your experience is different. The extension borrows the instructor's browser session and permissions to use the API endpoints available to the instructor user. Maybe you could take a small screencast and post it here to show everyone here what you are seeing.
Here you go! Chrome Print Extension not working
It would not surprise me if there is some setting here that is preventing this access. I've reached out to our admin, and when I get more details I'll let you know.
Kalli
You're skipping the step of putting the quiz into Preview mode. Give that a try.
Tried that too. Still nothing.
@kbink ...
Please see the comment from @peterfoxflick below...as it might apply to your school, too.

Scratch that, I saw you were in preview mode on one of your attempts. This may need to go directly to the author of the extension..I'm not aware of any security settings in Chrome that would prevent full use of the extension. @peterfoxflick can you help Kalli?
Hi Kalli, I think I know what the issue is. The extension is designed to run based on the URL. A typical URL looks like schoolcode.instruction.com/course/###/quiz/###
For some reason, your URL is canvas.schoolcode.edu/....
Is your school running their own version or one hosted from instructure? I'll try to make the extension more open to different URLs but that could prove tricky since its a permission issue from chrome.
I can confirm this behavior. Canvas cloud customers can pay for a vanity url which will brand their instance of Canvas to their school. We have one too and it won't work if I load my quiz via that URL. (learn.maricopa.edu is ours). It does work on maricopa.instructure.com.
@peterfoxflick , Here's my quiz URL with numbers (and http header) stripped:
-- canvas.iastate.edu/courses/xxxxx/quizzes/yyyyyy/take?preview=1 --
If I change it to
-- iastate.instructure.com/courses/xxxxx/quizzes/yyyyyy/take?preview=1 --
... there is no such page (404 error) since Instructure.com is not hosting our implementation of Canvas.
Oh I bet that is it! We can login to the more standard site. That was it! It worked!!! So exciting. Oh, but it doesn't print the images. We usually have several images in our exams. Darn. But we will have the tool when we don't have images!
Thanks!
Here's a video of me in the instructor role demonstrating the printability of some pretty hefty quizzes in terms of question count:
What's the URL of the quiz? You can remove the numbers if you feel that it poses a security threat, or just message me it. This might be the same issue as Kalli.
The issue appears to be with "vanity" URL's or whatever you want to call them. I pulled your extension from Git and modified a few lines, ran it locally and was able to make it work for canvas.iastate.edu. Also modified a few things in CSS for our use...great extension and I appreciate the hard work.
I just updated the extension to work with vanity URLs. Go ahead and give it another shot if it hasn't worked with your school.
@gwied JEFHQ12951 @kbink
Ran it quick on one of our courses and it appears to be working, thanks again for the hard work! That opens it up a bit for everyone now
Same here, it's working as advertised on our vanity URL. For the uninitiated in using chrome extensions, if it's not updating you may have to force it to update: How to Manually Update Your Chrome Extensions
Once done you may see a message that asks you to accept the new permissions. Permissions requested by apps and extensions - Chrome Web Store Help
Thanks for the update, Peter!
You are AWESOME!!! Works wonderfully. Thank you so much!
Weird thing: It looks beautiful in-browser, but when I go to print it, it all becomes jumbled. (See screenshots)
In Chrome:
When I save a PDF:
Thank you for working on this!
I'll look into it. Any chance you could send me the quiz as an LTI packet? DM me for an email.
First, BIG THANK YOU for creating this!
The issue I am running into is that the printable copy has the questions pretty far out of order. Combined with the fact that they are not numbered, I can see potential problems with trying to grade them.
Any ideas why the printable copy is a much different order than the "Preview" itself?
Beautiful! You've made several of our faculty and our Disabilities department very happy! Thank you for sharing!
I wanted to update you on a comment I made earlier about not printing images. It is the recurring problem we have had with quizzes with questions taken from a question bank that have images (not New Quizzes). There is a fix that I've been trying to share around. In the quizzes where we fixed the images this is working find. It's easier to show than explain. If you have had any problems with images in quizzes, give this Image fix a try.
This tool is still awesome! But I had an instructor ask if there was a way to print the quiz with A, B, C, D instead of the circles so that she could use a scantron to do the scoring. Any chance that would an easy add on? LOL - it's awesome as it is.
At my institution, we have instructors use Respondus 4.0 to turn Canvas quizzes into paper quizzes. It's a fairly quick and simple process for those with no luck using the extension.
Can you share the directions on how to use Respondus 4.0 to turn Canvas quizzes into paper quizzes?
If you have more than 25 questions Genius Canvas won't display the "details" a.k.a. answers.
I haven't had any issues with quizziz aside from kids clicking too fast sometimes. Read reviews about infrequent use printer at this site. Definitely like the accountability it provides over Kahoot. We still use Kahoot but that's more for fun and review. I can target more easily with quizziz. You can export results to excel too!
That is why we are providing you with reviews of the die cut stickers machine for vinyl stickers. Therefore, especially when they want to make creative stickers, they have gained massive popularity among designers and art students. The various materials can be die-cut and the designs embossed as well. But it is not that simple to find the right vinyl cutter. There are a lot of rivals here that make your choice difficult.

It works well for me. I hope it helps.
