Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I've been using the Canvas LMS for the past six years. There seems to be nothing I can do to get the "Teacher Tour" to go away! I've gone through it seven times - I already know! MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi Scott, allowing cookies for Canvas has solved the problem for me.
Hi, @aaron_backlin Welcome to the Canvas Community! Do you see a "Don't Show Again" button at the bottom right of the flyout panel? Click on that, and you shouldn't see it again.
If only there were such a button but I do not have one, no.
My apologies, @aaron_backlin . I saw it depicted here and thought it was applicable to this question. Are you able to disable it in your user settings, as described in https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12890-4152728946
No such luck - already looked there. I appreciate your attentiveness to my problem, though!
I do not see a "don't show again" option, either.
Hi Aaron,
Have you clicked through the three steps of the tour at least once? If you clicked through to the end and it is still popping up every time you hit the dashboard then it is not working as planned. Please confirm this is the case (or not) so we can forward those details to Support.
I have clicked through the steps of the tour multiple times. Happens whenever I open a link in a new tab, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with private browsing tabs - maybe it's logging completion on the client side rather than server side? I'll keep playing with it - not a life altering frustration but still frustrating!
Hi Aaron,
I was able to speak with the product designers who built the tour. They asked an engineer to take a look at the issue who confirmed it is logging completion on the client side rather than server side. We can add functionality to accommodate private browsing tabs but it will take some time. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I would also really, really like such functionality. I have the same issue and it is maddening--it reminds me of having to constantly dismiss "Clippy" from early 2000s Microsoft Word!
I started receiving the Teacher Tour every time I sign into Canva about two weeks ago. I've been using Canvas at our school for 5 or 6 years and this is the first time I am being ANNOYED by this function. I tried turning it off several times in settings and even took the Tour! It persists. Please advise. Thank you.
It has been about two years since the issue was raised, but it has not been resolved. Another issue is the inability to export quiz files in Word to Canvas. Canvas admin is unresponsive to user needs. How does this company even survive?

Please, please, please do the same for the student tour as well. This is insanely annoying, especially for those of us who are both teachers and students (like graduate assistants). I have to click through four tour notification reminders every single time I log in to Canvas!
Agreed.
There should NOT only be a Cookie-related solution.
Many of our users strictly control their cookies, or open Private Browsing windows, particularly for classrooms where they actually are teaching our students how to put up an online course. Every one of those users get the message every time.
This should be controlled at the database level and stick with the user's selection, no matter which browser/device they are using.
I have viewed or "clicked through" the steps and it still keeps coming back.
I have the same problem and it really is annoying. Please, help us to find a solution, quickly.
I have had the same problem. I use Firefox in a Private Window (private browsing). I tried using Firefox without private browsing, and haven't seen the Teacher Tour panel. (I did have to log in and out once before it stopped.) If you are using private browsing, you might try this.
I've got the same problem and it is driving me crazy. I am not using private browsing, but I do have tight cookie options - could that be a reason? Please, please, please, do something about it, I work with a lot of separate tabs in Canvas on a daily basis and each time I open one I have to click away two pop-ups about the tour....
Hi Helena,
I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with this too. But yes, tight cookie control is very likely to be the issue. If you will trust Canvas to use cookies in your browser this should alleviate the issue for now.
Hi Scott, allowing cookies for Canvas has solved the problem for me.
Glad to hear it!
INSTRUCTRURE: Please make this annoying tour GO AWAY. I have gone through the tour and clicked " do not show again" and also in my setting disabled it. It is still showing up. This started 2 weeks ago.
Hi Robin,
Are you allowing cookies in your browser? In not, enabling this specifically for Canvas should stop the tour from appearing.
Yes I am, that was a previous suggestion here, and it doesn't change anything. I've used different browsers, disabled all my notifications, etc.
Hi Robin,
I'm sorry to hear you are being plagued by this issue. I've interacted with probably 20 people who had had a similar experience and in every case cookies were being blocked by their network or web browser. Which browser do you prefer using most often?
I should also mention that, in addition to the suggestion about private browser mode up thread, sometimes people will have their browser settings set to allow cookies but then also have a browser plugin installed that is designed to block cookies and so the net affect is that they still see the tour every time they log into Canvas.
I have the same annoying problem. I am so tired of this!
Seems like it has been QUITE A WHILE since this was reported to Canvas, and still no fix??? What's the delay. This is really really annoying!
Seems like an easy fix to just add a "don't show this again" checkbox...
Amazingly, it has magically stopped for me. I didn't do anything -- did Canvas fix this issue? I'm checking with my co-instructors to see if it also stopped for them. Tentatively optimistic....
My Canvas was hung up on this too. To stop it, I went to Account--Settings--Feature Options--Course Setup Tutorial--Disable.
I am not seeing course setup tutorial under Feature options. Are you logged in via the actual canvas link or the instructure.com?
