How can I select and import only specific elements of a Commons course instead of importing the entire course (which exceeds my quote)?

There is a trick to do this! Right below the import into course button there is a download button. Select this download button. Once the file is downloaded, go to the course where you want to add the resources. Select Settings and then Import Course content. under content type. select Canvas Course Export Package. 

You'll then want to locate the package on your computer. It will likely be in your downloads.

Then select the radio button next to Select specific content. Click import. An option will appear asking you to select the specific content. Make your selection and then choose Select Content.
