Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I'm a Canvas administrator and I am seeing this issue occur periodically at our school and I have seen this issue previously as well (been using Canvas since 2011):
Your suggestions would be welcome.

I really wonder if any instructor wants to carry over Calendar Events from one semester to the next. Perhaps, Calendar Events could simply be excluded from the items that are carried over when an instructor imports content.
@gabrielle_orsi , if you do a "select specific content" when you go to import your course content you can then check everything, but the Calendar content. For that you can go through it and select what individual items you do and don't want moved over into the new semester.
Hello there, @gabrielle_orsi ...
I noticed that we have not heard from you since you first posting this question on September 28th. I wanted to check in with you to see if you've had an opportunity to review the feedback that you've received from @kona . If so, did Kona's response help to answer your question? Do you have any outstanding questions yet as it relates to your above topic? If you feel that Kona's response has helped to answer your question, please go ahead and mark it as "Correct". But, if you are still looking for some help from members of the Canvas Community, by all means please post a message below so that we can assist you. For now, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered" because we've not heard back from you and because there hasn't been any new activity in this topic for quite some time. This won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below, however. I hope that's alright with you, Gabrielle. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!
There is still a need for functionality to be able to delete calendar events "en masse" as gabrielle_orsi described.

I am having the same problem re: assignments from old courses popping up in the "To Do" area. I tried to follow instructions for deleting, but the suggestion is not working. They are still showing up in students' "To Do" area--very confusing.
I solved my problem by deleting duplicate assignments--that copied with the "course copy" function--in the Assignments area.
