Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Looking for a way to have our instructors receive notification when a student has passed X quiz.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Faculty can go in and change their notification preferences so that "All Submissions" is set to ASAP - https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-1286
Yet, that will send a notification for every assignment, quiz, discussion submission turned in by students. There is no way to just get notifications about one specific quiz.

Thank you!! Was looking too hard there and totally missed it!

This doesn't seem to be quite accurate in that Canvas appears not to provide an option to get instructor notifications for every quiz submission. I was surprised that it does not have this functionality. I hope I am incorrect about this, because this is an important function we need.
But in reading through this Canvas documentation about notifications, it indicates that one can only get notifications to quizzes that have a manually graded component, and not quizzes that have all auto-graded components. Am I reading that right!? This is disappointing, and I would be delighted to be wrong.
I agree, Mark, this feature is a must. My solution was to make the last question an 'essay' question worth 0 points. Upon submission I would then get a notification that the student finished their quiz.
Thanks for the follow-up @brice_jensen I can now also confirm you're suggested work-around. Since I posted back in May, my team has tested and decided upon a work-around for those instructors that do want a notification for every quiz submission. The work-around is similar to yours, but what we do is create an academic integrity statement 'essay' question at the beginning of the quiz, and ask the student to agree to the statement by typing their name in the box. This fulfills two goals for us, 1) having students still respond to an academic integrity statement (instead of yes/no question, we use an 'essay question), and then 2) it triggers the requirement for a submission notification for the instructor.
Not ideal, but it is working for us.
Best,
~Mark
Thanks for the great idea, I am going to borrow it!
I wonder if notifications may change, or a feature is included in the new quiz engine.
I don't get notified when students submit a quiz, even when there are open-ended questions... and even though my notifications are set for "all submissions." What's going on? How do I fix this?
Good evening, @blakeh …
Are you ensuring to check not only your Canvas account level notification settings but also your course level notification settings?
Keep us posted. Let Community members know if you have any other questions about this…thanks!
