[ARCHIVED] No Observing Tab under Account

Hello. I am a parent and already have an account set up. As I'm getting ready for the school year, I am wondering why I don't have the Observing tab under Accounts in my account so I can pair up with my son's account. Please advise. These are the only options that come up when I click on Account:

• Notifications
• Profile
• Files
• Settings
• ePortfolios
• Shared Content
• QR for Mobile Login

Hi Basma -

I'm going to send you a direct message with some help. The reason for that is to keep students honest as they can use the same steps to observe each other. (Not ideal.) Check your Community Inbox.

I'm a parent with the same problem as in the original post. But I can't view the solution you sent to the poster. Please advise how I can add the Observing tab so that I can pair with my child.

Good afternoon,

We are having the same problem as mentioned by others in this thread.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I am an Admin on our school canvas account.  A parent has reached out to us stating they are not able to observe their students' accounts.  This parent has already created a Canvas account and is paired with one student.  They are trying to pair with a second student, but the observer option is not available to them when they click on their account.  Is this something as an Admin that I need to turn on or is there another fix for it?

I have this same issue trying to pair with my son to observe his class.  He can generate a code, but I have no observer tab to enter it.  Any guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I am our schools admin and I have a parent having the same issue. I can't see the Observer link to add her students. Can you please let me know how to add her observation codes? Thank you!

HI Gabbie,

What I came to realize was that accounts made in the admin panel under People, don't end up getting assigned a user role so therefor they arent recognized as an observer. 

The account needs to be made from the login screen under "Parent of Canvas User? Click Here For an Account"
