It seems we cannot set new quizzes question points below 1. Is this correct?

I am seeing that as being true. I'm not a huge fan of New Quizzes yet and this is another reason why.

Actually, you can set them lower than 1. I doubled checked to make sure I wasn't crazy.  But you can set them to, for example, .5   Or at least I did on a multiple choice question. (I've also used the .5 on the vary points by answer function in multiple choice.)  This should also work when pulling questions in from an item bank. I just go into the point value box in the lower left of the question and change it there. Or, in an item bank section, in the points per question box. 

Unfortunately, you can't set point value INSIDE the item bank. Each question has to be worth the same amount of points, which happens when they are pulled into the quiz. This has been an issue for me when most of my questions have one blank but maybe 1 or 2 have two blanks. I have to do the 2 point ones outside the bank.

Side note related to points in new quizzes - make sure that the point value entered when initially setting up the quiz matches the eventual point total. It will allow those to be different and then adjust the quiz score to the initial set up number of points. Which can be useful if you want to make all your quizzes worth the same weight regardless of actual points. (We have some math teachers that put all quizzes out of 100 points even if there are only, for example, 33 questions. That way all the quizzes count equally in the grade.)

You're reading my mind. So....when I teacher shares a new quiz with a colleague (thanks for telling me to turn that on, btw) and the new colleague wants to edit the quiz, how can she prevent this from happening?

Once the quiz is done, I take the point total in your second screenshot and then go back out to the assignment list, click on the three vertical dots and then edit. Change the point total there to match the quiz. So here, to change a 17 to 11.

Is this what you mean by the lower left of the question? When I type .5, it defaults to 5. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere?

That is what I was talking about, and that is weird!! I change it to .5 there and it stays as .5. When I save, it shows .5 in the question:

I wonder if there is a setting somewhere that says you can't go below 1?
