[ARCHIVED] Is there a way to include insert math equations as answers in quizzes?

I am trying to create quizzes for my math students to take.  I love that I am able to insert equations into the question box, but I have not been able to use this same feature when it comes to answers. Any suggestions or is this not a possibility?

Hi  @jamie_nelson  Welcome to the Canvas Community!  First of all, I will start off by telling you that I am about as far from being a math/equation expert as one can imagine, but with that caveat I can tell you that, yes, it IS possible though not immediately obvious when editing a quiz.  I'm assuming you are using the current/traditional quiz engine and not Quizzes.Next, but the following screen capture will show you how to get to the editor.  Hover your mouse over the first answer text box, and you will see a pencil to the far right:

Click that pencil, and you will be in the same rich content editor that you see everywhere else in Canvas, including (yes) the math equation editor button.

Ok, I thought I was good, but apparently am not. When I hover over my answer text box I only get the trash can. I am following the Quizzes tab and building the quiz in there. I am unsure what the current/traditional quiz engine is.

Hi again Jamie - If you are using the Quizzes menu item you are indeed using the traditional quiz engine.  (The Quizzes.Next engine will start from the Assignments menu item.)

To make sure we're both looking at the same thing, make sure that what you are seeing--and the steps that you are following--started with screens that looked like this page (How do I create a quiz with individual questions? ) and what you are doing, specifically within a question, looks something like the screens on this page (How do I create a Multiple Choice quiz question? ).  In the latter case, you want so specifically see what I pointed out to earlier under the heading Create Answers with Rich Content Editor.  Does that help at all??

I noticed this works for some of the question types but not all of them. For example, matching doesn't have the RTE. This is the case in the classic and quizzes.next.

I'm not sure about the company's direction with answers having the editor but it sure makes me interested in learning the code so I could help out. Can we add 10 or more hours to each day?

Next stop, what programming language are they using ... it looks like Ruby on Rails.

I found that pencil for student responses but only if you choose Multiple Choice. Are there any other choices where this pencil appears?
