Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Ever since I attended a single class at a certain campus, they've been pretty liberal with their use of the informational messages that appear at the top of Canvas in the web browser version. While they can be dismissed, it's incredibly annoying to have so much of the page taken up by information I'm not interested in every single time I need to check Canvas. However, I couldn't seem to find a way to disable these in the options anywhere, but it feels like there must be a way. I haven't been interested in seeing these from the day I enrolled here, and I'm certainly no more interested after seeing them nearly every day for half a year.

Hi Ryan,
You can manually dismiss the announcements after you have seen them and they will not return. If your school has put an "end date" on the announcement, it will also automatically disappear at that time.
However, there is no option available in Canvas to prevent announcements from being displayed by default.

I see, I wouldn't mind the notifications if they weren't being posted so often then. Didn't realize they're supposed to disappear permanently. I guess I'll contact the campus and see if I can resolve this with them. Thank you.

In addition to the information that @mzimmerman and @kmeeusen have provided you, I wanted to also mention that these kinds of announcements (known as "global announcements" for Canvas administrators) are posted based on role type...not by individual student. So, for example, your school's local Canvas administrator can post an announcement for all students and/or all instructors, but they cannot specify specific individuals Depending on how your school's Canvas environment is configured (via something called sub-accounts), it may be possible for your school to direct these kinds of announcements to only specific sub-accounts...such as only to individuals in the nursing program, for example. But, that would be something that is determined by your school's local Canvas administrator. Hopefully you were able to get in contact with your school's Online Learning or eLearning department to discuss the frequency of those announcements. I hope this helps, Ryan.
