I'm wondering, would the Canvas community be interested in creating an interactive crowd-sourced Canvas course?  The content would perhaps not be relevant so much as we could have a place where we could have a sort of show-and-tell platform where we can come together and show the interesting design things that we are doing in our courses.

The first concern I would have is how to organize the content and prevent someone from modifying or deleting someone else's content.  Perhaps we could have a panel of content curators or something.  Each content page could include the contact information of the person who created it, so people could reach out to that person/institution. 

Does this at all sound feasible or something that people would be interested in?

snufer​, this is a fantastic idea, and we are hopeful that you will leverage the new iteration of CanvasLIVE to organize this collaborative effort in the form of panel discussions or exchanges of ideas or chat rooms or screen sharing sessions or whatever is needed at that particular moment. We're doing this already within our institution, and it's great to have a location to build sharable assets and ideas. 

I wonder though, how this would be different than Commons?  Maybe commons is more for complete packages, where this would be more smaller elements, graphics, design concepts... that kind of work?

I had the same thought. I would love to be able to share ideas through the "show and tell" process, but then how would it be different from Canvas Commons? I am new to Canvas and am still figuring out the system. Would love to see how well others have been doing.

Meet-up notes

Yesterday we had our meet-up event (Instructional Design Toolkit ).  There were 45 of us who attended this meet-up.  We brainstormed our ideas for what this initiative might look like.  First, we discussed what we might get out of a toolkit:

• A repository of hacks for IDs
• Templates
• Canvas 101 (orientation) materials for our institutions
• Overview of LTI integrations  (perhaps we could recruit vendors to provide showcases of their products for us)

We then discussed how we might structure the toolkit.  Below are the modules that we are considering:

• HTML
• CSS
• Third party platforms that integrate into Canvas
• Content page layout designs
• Mobile
• QM (or equivalent, such as OLC Scorecard)
• Accessibility
• Group projects - ideas for execution and for types of assignments
• Ways to use rubrics -> how are different rubrics used across different fields and institutions
• Humanizing online education - e.g. employing Community of Inquiry model in online education
• ePortfolios

Of course this list and these ideas are works in progress.  Thank you for all who joined the call yesterday.

I'm joining in late.  Saddleback College is just starting to make the transition.  I would be very interested in participating in this.  How do I get involved?

I mentioned the CanvasHacks Classroom a while back.  Others have suggested Commons as a way to model good design and share examples.  There are also a collection of example courses in the Resources area of the community that the community team assembled (sometime before the last ice age).  What if we had an area in the community where people could share links to open courses they have created in their own instances or in Free for Teacher.  The community could maybe then vote on their favorites and discuss them in an open forum.  How do you like that idea?
