Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I have created groups for a class project. Is there a way to export the groups and the members in the form of and Excel spreadsheet?
Thanks

Solved! Go to Solution.
Although it doesn't make sense, if you click "Import" from the Groups tab, you get the option to download a CSV file. So, I had Canvas randomly assign students to groups. The file I downloaded includes the roster plus assignment to groups (Group Name and Group Number). You could then "import" the CSV file back to add groups, but you can just stop at the first step to get a CSV with group membership.
@agc72 , unfortunately no, there isn't a way to download a file with the members of a group. The best I can think of is either taking a screen shot of your different groups and/or typing them out by hand.
If you are interested, here is the link to the most recent feature idea for this idea - https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/4966" modifiedtitle="true" title="Export Groups to CSV. It didn't gain much momentum and was eventually archived to https://community.canvaslms.com/groups/cold-storage?sr=search&searchId=c645e59b-4b8e-4734-a78c-268f8.... If you want to see what was posted on this idea you can ask to join the Cold Storage group, just click on the link to Cold Storage and ask to join the group. In addition, if you want, you could always revive the idea in the https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas?sr=search&searchId=6feae219-624a-4ec7-92cc-64af1f7c9... as a new idea (even though it has been an idea in the past).
Hope this helps!
Hi, is there any development of this issue?
It's been a year since the last answer.
A function to export groups is much needed and appreciated.
Does anyone know a workaround to export the groups to excel or any other format? We have courses with very large numbers of students (for example a course with 700 students). They can self-enroll in groups, but if we cannot export these groups to excel, then the lecturer has to manually create these excel-lists. An export with GroupName - Name - First name - Email address would save so much time for so many lecturers at our institution. Please don't put this (simple) addition into Cold Storage again 🙂
Hi
We built a phyton script to both inject and harvest groups (csv format)
If you send me an email I can get you in touch with one of my developers

Thank you.
At the moment I'm using the following workaround:
Get your **bleep** together canvas -- this is an easy fix, add group info to the gradebook.
As a workaround, I created an assignment, gave each group an identifying grade, downloaded the gradebook and then deleted the assignment.
