[ARCHIVED] How to best use Canvas for Faculty Learning communities

I want to create a community space where faculty can share ideas and questions within their department or grade as they learn Canvas.  As far as I can tell the best option is for me to create a course that I enroll all faculty in but I'm not sure if it's best to then break up the grades/departments into groups or into sections.  I want them to be able to easily create and share pages/discussions, etc. within their grade/department.

I appreciate and tips.

Hi Jody! I'm a college Canvas admin, and we do something very similar! I'd actually recommend creating completely separate courses for different groups of faculty. If everyone is together all in one, you might wind up with some drama as folks don't talk to each other and delete each other's content and so on (assuming you're letting them be teachers in the course, which gives them more autonomy to use the space effectively). Everyone together in one can also make things really difficult to organize after a while, too!

My biggest recommendation though: ask your faculty what they want!
