[ARCHIVED] How do we deactivate a teacher?

Is there a way to deactivate a teacher who is no longer employed by the institution? Or, is the only option to delete the user? If deleting the user, does this remove any of the course level submissions (such as announcements, uploaded files, etc.) the user has made in the courses for which the user was listed as a teacher?

Thank you Mike! Canvas support also informed me of the following:
"There is not a way to deactivate a user in Canvas. They will either be in an Active or Deleted state. That being said, if you want to leave their account active, but prevent them from accessing the system, you could try the following.
You would want to go into their Canvas user account and change their login ID and the e-mail address associated with. This could be done in the user interface in Canvas, or through a CSV/SIS import. Once the login ID and e-mail address is changed, they would no longer be able to log in, or reset their password in Canvas."
