Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
How do I put a course into the "Past Enrollments" section? Is this done by the IT department in my university or do I do this somehow when I "complete" or "conclude" a course?
Please advise. Many thanks
Chris

Thanks @Eric Werth for that information. Now, my next question is when will faculty have the option to move courses in and out of "past enrollments" as it's valuable to be able to see some older, completed courses in the dashboard...but this unfortunately isn't allowed by the Canvas software yet. I've seen other articles where Canvas users run into the same issue and in this case, maybe our IT department is protecting us from this issue.
Do you have thoughts on this? Many thanks in advance and thanks for your earlier post!
If your institution has provided you with access to set your own start and end dates for the course on the Settings --> Course Details page, then I believe that by entering an End Date in the past (yesterday for example) would move your course to the Past Enrollments area on the All Courses page.
Here was the Release Notes that explains this a bit more, when they made the change...
Hi @chrisdmccoy and welcome to the Canvas Community. At my institution, courses are moved automatically into past enrollments based on Canvas settings managed by IT. This way faculty do not need to be concerned about setting term dates or concluding courses. I would suggest that you contact IT at your institution and ask if this is also the case there or if they have another process set up.
All the best--

Hi @chrisdmccoy . When you go to the "courses" tab and "all courses", do you see a set of courses under a section called "past enrollments"? At our institution this appears at the bottom of the all courses list. I just checked, and faculty here can follow the process on this page, How do I customize my Courses list as an instructor? and "favorite" courses in the past enrollments section so that it would appear on their dashboard. In this document it does state,
"Depending on course configuration, you may still be able to view your past enrollments after courses have concluded. However, favorited courses are not automatically removed as a favorite. If a past enrollment course still shows as a favorite, users can unfavorite the course by toggling the star icon."
If you cannot see past enrollments, you might ask IT or your Canvas administrators if this is intentional or if something else may be happening.
Best wishes--
Past Enrollment is controlled when a course concludes. The instructor can 'conclude' a course manually in the settings page, or it happens automatically when the term ends that the course is part of. This becomes a problem with manually created courses that are part of the default term which has no end date - but you can still manually conclude them.
To move it out of Past Enrollments (for ALL users, can't be done without affecting all users of the course) move it from the term it's in to default term. This will likely need to be done by your school's Canvas Administrator.
A workaround that I suggest if you really need to refer to past courses a lot - you can either create a desktop shortcut or bookmark to the course front page in your browser. The course URL is stable and won't change. This also relies on your Canvas Administrator's allowing faculty to continue viewing old courses (which is likely, but not 100% assured).
