Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
How do I edit a comment left in feedback section of Speed Grader? I made a mistake and I don't want to delete the entire comment but want to edit only a portion of it. It looks like all I can do is delete the comment and start over. That is not helpful at all. I need edit power.

@taylord2 , while assignment comments cannot be edited in Speedgrader, they can be edited in the Grade Detail Tray in the Gradebook. Please refer to the Edit Comment section of How do I leave comments for students in the Gradebook?
Hi @taylord2 and welcome to the Community. Currently you can delete but not edit this comments. However, what I frequently do is copy the comment, paste it in Word, delete the comment with an error, fix the comment and then post a new comment by copy/paste. For short comments I skip the part about posting in Word. With longer comments I just fear somehow the copy didn't work!
It goes fast (perhaps this is why it hasn't been changed yet) and I have "edited" many comments this way over time. Being said, there is an open idea for editing these comments, https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12956-feedback-box-in-speedgrader-needs-to-be-editable" modifi.... I have voted for this and suggest you consider doing so as well!
Hope this helps---
I do that as well. But it would be way more convenient to be able to edit the comment. No one has been able to give me a good reason why this ability is not there.
This has also happened to me many times and I have handled it almost the same way, except that I just copied the text from the incorrect comment, deleted the comment and pasted directly into a new comment -- no need to paste in Word first -- it's in your clipboard once you copy.
Thank you. I do this as well. That is what I did on this situation. However, it would be way easier if I could just go in and edit my comment and no one has given me a reason why this cannot happen.

Why would the programmers at Canvas not allow for editing directly on the SpeedGrader pages? If someone has a class of 50, the time spent grading can seem endless and every little disruption to the workflow adds time to an already lengthy process. When I submit a comment with a typo, it is a real inconvenience to have to go into a completely different section to edit that comment when a simple programming tag could permit text editing directly on this page.
Why hasn't this been fixed yet? The lack of editing seems to be a big over-sight. This problem was identified three years ago and still no improvement. Maybe they don't read these comments?
@GeorgeWalker ...
The folks at Instructure (Canvas) absolutely read our comments. You may not see replies from them, but they do read our feedback. I know it can be frustrating when waiting for things we think should be a part of the core Canvas product. I've submitted ideas here in the Community for things I have wanted in Canvas...but there hasn't been much movement on them...years later. Like many other companies, Canvas has a budget to work within, so as much as we'd like to see "all the things" developed, that's not always possible. You can, however, follow the Canvas Product Roadmap - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) which was just updated this week. You might also want to refer to the idea that @ericwerth referred to in an earlier comment here: Feedback Box in SpeedGrader needs to be editable - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com).
Sorry I don't exactly have better news for you, but I hope this helps to answer your question.
