Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Dear Community,
Does anyone know how we can keep Conference recordings for longer than 14 days? I thought there was a fee associated with it, but do we contact Canvas or Big Blue Button? Thanks!
Solved! Go to Solution.
If you don't want to pay, and you don't mind storing the videos locally, you can always right-click on them and save them.
As for who to contact to set up a paid account with BigBlueButton, I'm not exactly sure but I would start with your Customer Success Manager.

Thanks for your response, Adam! I don't see an option to right-click to
download the recording. The only option from the gear is to delete. I will
contact our CSM. Thanks!
I'm going to mention @ffdixon so that you can talk to him about setting up a paid account with BBB.
There is no way to save the recordings with the standard BBB integration. We've been using a paid account now for about 6 months and are very happy with the service.
Thanks, Kona! I will make the contact. Thanks again!

Does this mean I can claim Kona's level and points in the community?
LOL... don't worry @canvas_admin you got all the credit! The only reason my name was attached to this question was that the post initially went into moderation and I'm the one who approved it.
Whoops! Sorry, Mark! Thanks to all who responded. I spoke to Fred today
and we have a game plan. Thanks again!

Is there any way to retrieve a recording done about a month ago?
Hi Indra,
I'm the Manager of Customer Success at Blindside Networks. We host the free and premium tier for canvas conferences.
> Is there any way to retrieve a recording done about a month ago?
Recordings on the free tier are stored for 14 days and then deleted, hence we do not keep recording data past the 14 days. If you need access to recordings longer than 2 weeks, permanent recordings is a premium tier feature - blindsidenetworks.com/hosting. You can contact your canvas rep for further information.
All the best!
Tara
Thanks so much Tara for the quick response. We will decide whether we will
need to keep them for more than 14 days.
Thanks
Indra

Hi Maria,
Yes, as Mark mentioned, you can contact Fred Dixon (ffdixon@blindsidenetworks.com), he's the product manager for BigBlueButton. You can also contact myself for more information on how to store recordings longer than 14 days.
Here's a link to what our premium tier of hosting includes: http://blindsidenetworks.com/instructure/
Take care!
We have used BBB for almost a year and Fred Dixon is wonderful to work with. Unfortunately our firewall restrictions are extremely tight since our IT services are provided by the Medical Center we reside within that we are unable to work with BBB's practices of using many IP addresses.
Our institution requires a set and limited range of IP's for which they make specific exceptions. It is an uncommon and frustratingly restrictive approach but highly effective way to protect an internal environment. When we told Mr. Dixon we were going to have to drop our subscription he was as gracious and accommodating as ever.
Hi Cindy,
Thanks for the kind words. It was great working with you and your team as well.

Hi Fred, I just reached out via the page on your website, but I'd love to get some pricing information on this as well. Our (small) online institution is just beginning our transition to Canvas, and we'd love to get this particular piece of the integration ironed out! Thanks
Hi Epharim,
We got your information (you had submitted it 5 minutes ago 🙂 ). We'll follow-up with you right away with the details on upgrading to the Premium Tier.

I just added a new discussion at Institutional Approaches for Student Video Projects regarding student video projects. I'm hoping that @canvas_admin and prmjohnson could provide additional information on how things are working for them. I just presented the Premium Tier to a faculty committee and they are very concerned about what happens if there are more than the allocated number of concurrent sessions, especially if also being used by student groups.
One question was can we keep the free Conferences integration and then allocate by sub-account a Premium Tier conferences integration - in other words, have the programs than need the ability to record and retain recordings longer than 14 days the ability to do so without affecting the rest of the University use of Conferences in Canvas.

Hi Melissa,
I'm the product manager for BigBlueButton and the CEO of Blindside Networks, the company that started the BigBlueButton project in 2009. We provide the Free Tier and Premium tier hosting for Instructure.
> I just presented the Premium Tier to a faculty committee and they are very concerned about what happens if there are more than the allocated number of concurrent sessions, especially if also being used by student groups.
Nothing bad would happen. If you upgrade to the Premium Tier, you pay for a given capacity (measured in concurrent sessions), but we don't hard code any limit.
If you exceed the capacity at any time, everything still works. There is no alarm. There is no indication to any user. It just works.
For the business relationship, if you significantly exceed the capacity for a sustained period (which means it's clear your operating at a much higher capacity than originally estimated), and it's reasonably early in the one year contract, we'll probably come back and ask you to upgrade your capacity for the remainder of the one year term.
You'll note the qualifiers "significantly", "sustained", "estimated", "reasonably", and "probably" -- we're trying to be very flexible and simply make a judgement. I can tell you in all our customers, there were only handful of times we asked them to upgrade as it was clear to us (and them) that the usage was much higher than they anticipated.
Most of the times, the usage slowly increases over time. We want to grow with you, hence the model of charging you only for the capacity you need (and not simply over charging you using a formula based on the size of your school).
As you use the Premium Tier, we will be able to provide you accurate usage data over the 12 month contract period so you can easily estimate the renewal costs based.
> One question was can we keep the free Conferences integration and then allocate by sub-account a Premium Tier conferences integration
Unfortunately, this is not possible -- the settings for Canvas Conferences (Free Tier/Premium Tier) are account-wide.

Hi All,
Is there a way to download the recording without the Premium before the 14 days is up?
Thanks
Hi Quan,
I'm the Manager of Customer Success at Blindside Networks.

The ability to download a recording is only available on the premium tier - see link to features - http://blindsidenetworks.com/instructure/
Please reach out if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Tara
