[ARCHIVED] Finding and Sizing Uploaded Canvas Videos

I see that there is a 500 MB limit for videos uploaded into Canvas.  How large are the video files that I uploaded directly into canvas?  Is there anyway to determine this or download those video files again to my computer?  I want to see the video length I should shoot for to stay within a reasonable size.

I would suggest you upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo and just embed the link in your Canvas page or assignment. It works faster. If your institution has a dedicated streaming server, upload those files there for a better solution.

Canvas media uploading is fine but sometimes took too long to load if your file is super large.

Thanks.  We do a lot of that already.  I'm looking for something simpler, say if students want to do video sign ins and introductions at the beginning of a course, how long can these be before we start to tax our storage.  These Canvas videos seemed to be more compressed in the past...now they seem a bit higher quality.  

Also if we do have students start uploading greetings, how do we delete the files to keep them from building up?  Once I upload a video file with Canvas app I can't find it again to delete or download.

If I am not mistaken, student submissions actually won't take up your course's storage quota, it is the size of the media files that you as the instructor saved in the file folder that counts. So deleting the student submission files really won't free up your specific course's storage. This said, how much Canvas allows for AWS server-based storage as a whole is another topic, I believe there is a ceiling number too.

It is just the speed and reliability matter, sometimes, big file uploads will just got stuck in the middle... Based on the description of your course activities, maybe you are better off to use some third-party platforms, such as flipgrid. It is free.
