Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I want to have students participate in ten of the 15 discussions. I was considering using the "Excused" feature and so each student is allowed five "Excuses." But, if students participate in more than ten discussions, I want to use the ten highest scores. The problem is I cannot think of a good way to do this. I cannot use the "drop" feature, because the number of discussions that will be dropped will vary from student to student. There is no "keep the highest" scores function.
Actually, I know that I could use the drop feature if I dropped the lowest five discussion grades and put "0's" for missed discussions (instead of "Excused"). The problem with that is I like to let the students see their grades in Canvas throughout the semester, and with this approach any 0's are not dropped until week 6 and then all but one grade is dropped.
Hello,
Not sure if you still have this question since it's 2 years old. A good workaround is to not put the "drop lowest score" in until the grading period is close to ending. That way the students see what their 0's do to their grade, but at the end of the semester, those scores will drop.
