[ARCHIVED] Editing directly on student submissions

Dear Canvas,

I'd like to edit my students submissions directly when I am marking them by adding comments, strikethroughs and adding words. I can't see how I can type directly on their assignment submissions to do this unless I download the files, convert them to word, edit and then email them back. This seems much too laborious. Is there a way to edit them within canvas and return them with the comments and grade alongside?

Hi Rebecca -

Could your students submit their work via URL and share a Google Doc that provides you with editing permissions? You'd have to momentarily open the submission in a new tab, but the comments, typing changes, and annotations would be one-click away from the same space where they find their grade and/or rubric.
