We have a student that does not want Canvas to access her camera.  Is there a way for her to disable the camera in Canvas?

Your student can control what site can access her camera in her browser's camera permissions settings. Here are the resources for blocking camera access for Chrome and Firefox:

Nice to hear from you again!

There isn't any scenario in Canvas where the system will access the student's camera and take pictures or video without her initiating an activity that would use the camera such as recording with the media recorder in the rich content editor.  However, if she is using a mobile device, she should be able to disable access in her device's settings.  If she is using a web browser to access Canvas, every major web browser needs specific permissions enabled to allow the program to access the microphone and webcam. She can deny access to her mic and camera to prevent the browser from listening or watching.
