Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
We made the mistake of making quizzes individually and not from Question Banks. Now we want to pull questions from our previous quizzes for our midterms. Is there a way to create a Question Bank from already created quizzes? (Some of the questions are in the unfiled question bank, but not all of them)

Here is how we answered this question in the past:
The method used to get question banks created would be to create a quiz export where the quizzes reside, then import that newly created export .zip file back into the course. Choose the "QTI .zip file" when picking an import type. This will most likely duplicate the quiz, but you can deleted the duplicated quiz and keep the question bank. In addition, since there are quizzes that already exist within the course I would suggest selecting: "Overwrite assessment content with matching IDs".
I would also recommend testing this in either your test or beta environment or in a development course.

I have tried the solution you describe, however, when I attempt to import the QTI .zip file, the folder opens to several other folders/files and I am not sure which one to import:
Any help would be appreciated!
This does not work. The quiz is imported, but the questions are not added to a question bank. Not even to the unfiled questions.
I believe that, when you import a course that was fully exported, you can select the parts that you want to import, and there is an option to import quiz banks.

This works but I cannot imagine a much more awkward process to accomplish what should be a simple task. Why is there no feature to just send a question to a question bank?
Would be greatly improved if you could just check boxes of quiz questions and then choose to insert them into a bank. In the bank, where it says, "Add a question," you should have option of adding questions from already-made quizzes. Plus, the question banks don't sync with changes made in the quiz questions (and vice versa). That's a problem too. That means one's final version of the quiz question never enters the bank. So, if I use this question on a review exam or final exam, the students are being treated unfairly since the bank question differs from the one I gave them originally. Some significant improvement is needed on banks. Allow easy selection from quizzes to banks and have quiz-question changes sync with the question in the bank. These are suggestions that hope development takes into consideration.
I am running into these same problems. Does anyone know if there have been improvements to this recently?
It's a little more of a pain, but one way I work around this is to link the quiz (or exam) to the question bank using a group, and just select to choose all of the questions in the bank. This way, when you change it in the question bank it changes it for the quiz as well. You can't have question related to a single image, scenario, etc. this way, however, unless you copy the image/scenario to each individual question, since it automatically randomizes the order of the questions.
I have used this method in the past and it worked. Now when I do it, the new bank does not show up. It looks like it is importing, but when I go to the question banks, the new one I said to create is not there. Has something changed?
The method here works if you want to import all the quesitons on a quiz into a single bank. My issue is I get a quiz from commons with great questions...but I want to sort them into different banks. Its very time consuming but I open the quiz and "add to bank" where I want them and then delete the quiz I brought in from Commons
This is very simple.
All quiz questions that are not in a specific question bank go to a bank called "Unfiled Questions" bank.
Check your questions there (Quizzes> three vertical ... > Manage Question Banks)
From there, you can copy or move any question to any other bank.
You cannot duplicate a question (copy a question in a bank to the same bank). If you want to duplicate a question in a bank, copy it to any other bank (I have a bank called "Repository" just for that), then move it to the original bank.

Actually, they are not. I have over 100 questions across all of my course quizzes, yet only 34 show up in the unfiled bank. And there are not other banks.
Any idea why?
Thanks!
Erin
I just went through the export and import process and the quiz was imported as a new quiz, but was not added to a quiz bank, even to the unfulfilled questions. So something has changed since this original advise was posted.
I ran into this issue when I attempted to use the new quizzes method. I was unable to access the quizzes I had used previously, I assume because I made them using the old quizzes method. So I deleted the quiz I had started, made a new one using the old quiz method and was able to import all previous quizzes. It appears that any quizzes made using the old quiz method are not able to be used in the banks for the new quiz method. Super confusing. Hope this helps some of you!
