Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Hi all,
A while back we had to an exam, whereby the teachers used to student activity logs to indicate if you commited fraud. Although I haven't used canvas during the exam, had no browser window open and had my phone put away, the log still shows that I've been active.
I'm now falsily accused of fraud, and subsequently recieve reprecutions based solely on these activity logs.
How accurate are these logs, since I didn't use it and it still shows as if I were?
Could it be someone else who hacked my account; is there a possibility to check IP addresses?
Please let me know if you know the answer.
Hello there, @AninaJonker ...
You might want to consult with your school's local Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning/eLearning department about this issue. Your school's Canvas admin does have access to individual user accounts in Canvas, and they can see a reporting of page views which does include a "Remote IP" column via CSV download. This is the Guide that your school's Canvas admin would use: How do I view the page views for a user in an acco... - Canvas Community. If you take a look at the section called "View Page Views", you see a screen shot in that Guide where there is a link to a CSV file in the upper right hand corner (labeled as #6). This is the report that your Canvas admin can look at to see details about your activity in Canvas. It only shows 300 rows (well, actually 301 if you cound the heading columns on Line 1), however, as noted at the bottom of the Guide that I've linked for you.
Hope this helps a bit! Sing out if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Good luck!
Thank you for you quick response, I shall get in contact with my school's local canvas administrator.
Though, I'm still curious about the accuracy of the activity logs and in what way activity is being recorded. Is it accurate enough to be the sole mean for fraude control? Florida State University, for instance, recommends not using canvas for such ends, could that be because of inaccuracy?
Thank you in advance
Best practice:
Log out of Canvas Account when using web browsers or mobile apps.
I have a question about this accuracy as well
