[ARCHIVED] Comments on key fields, esp. due dates

I have a few situations for assignments or quizzes:

- standard class due dates

- adjusted due dates for students with semester long accommodations

- adjusted due dates for students with one-time accommodations 

Unfortunately, you all know about malingerers.  I would really like to be able to make a comment on a custom due date, so can track that a student has taken advantage of my good graces, or a student should always have extra time due to an ADA accommodation.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hello,

I believe you wanted to set Different Due Dates for different students. Every time you create an assignment, you will have to use the + Add button in the Assign section to select required students and add different due dates. Note that by default, an assignment is assigned to Everyone. To add different due dates, use the + Add button and select the required student and due dates. Please see the screenshot below.

I believe such assignments are called Differentiated Assignments. Assignments and graded discussions can be differentiated for individual students, sections, or groups; quizzes can only be differentiated for individual students or sections. You can designate if the assignment will be limited to those students, sections, or groups or if it will also be assigned to everyone else in the course.

I believe the extra time accommodations for Assignments must be set for every assignment individually. Also, the additional time given in a Quiz is set per quiz and is not applicable to all quizzes in the course if used Classic Quizzes. New Quizzes do have the capability to set accommodations once for all quizzes in the course.

(You can always edit the Assign section but please be careful when you edit after you have student submissions. I have seen instructors removing the Assign to from Everyone to add the required student name, instead of using the + Add button. By no longer assigning the assignment to Everyone any existing grades for all other students will be removed from the Gradebook and also submissions. However, assigning back to Everyone brings back all submissions and grades.)

You can also set additional time for a timed quiz as per accommodations. To give extra time on a Quiz:

1. Open the quiz.
2. Click Moderate This Quiz. (This option is available only if the quiz is Published.)
3. Click the Pencil icon on the left-hand side.
4. Enter attempts and click Save.
