Hello,
I am wondering if there is a way to work with individual students in a Google Doc commenting live as the student works with a Google Doc posted in Canvas. It seems as though teachers can only comment on a Google Doc after the student has submitted it. Is there a way to comment before the doc has been submitted? This is a feature that is available in Google Classroom because Google files are created that give the teacher access to all students work. Thank you so much.

I think you'd need to be added as a collaborator on the file in Google docs in order to do this. A couple of ways this might work would be to make it part of the assignment that when students start working on it. If you are using the Google Cloud Assignment when they get their copy on they have access. Give them the steps to add you as a collaborator and then you'll be able to comment on it in Google Docs before they submit. Once they submit though it creates a copy to ensure what you see in Canvas is how the document was when they submitted.
