[ARCHIVED] Canvas assigned peer reviews before the scheduled time

I'm an instructor, and I'm teaching an introductory college writing course. I set up a peer review assignment, and even though I triple-checked the dates for both the due date and the peer-review assignment date, Canvas automatically assigned peer reviews to students before the due date passed. I normally set the automated assignment for 8 hours after the due date -which is what I did with this assignment in 2 sections. What happened? It created a LOT of confusion with first-year college students, and took a lot of time for crisis management. 

I have been using Canvas for years, and have never had this happen.

When you set up the peer review assignment and automatically assigned reviews to students, did the students complete their assigned peer reviews without having to submit their own assignment first? Or did the students have to submit their work first?

They had to submit first. Otherwise it wouldn’t assign them at all.
