Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Looking for schools that are currently pushing grades from Canvas to Power School to connect with for advice on what setup needs to happen on the Canvas side.
Janet
@jlewis8 , have you seen this document - Admin FAQ: Canvas and PowerSchool - it should be helpful for what you're trying to do!
Yes I have - it is nice but I want to share information with a K12 school that actually has this feature working.
Thank you Kona
Hi Janet,
I would be happy to have your CSM look for some other schools to help you out with some PowerSchool references. Canvas does have many schools using PowerSchool currently. Do you know who your CSM is or can you tell me which school you are with?
Thanks!
Amy
Janet,
There isn't much setup on the Canvas side. The implementation team will do that for you. The only thing your teachers need to have set is the Push to SIS check box on assignments and quizzes. On the admin side under feature options the Grade Passback feature also needs to be enabled.
A few things to note though --
Hello Janet.
We started syncing grades to PowerSchool this year. We too have found that if the assignment name is too long it will not sync over. Also, if you put comments in your gradebook in PowerSchool for an assignment synced from Canvas, the comments will be overwritten once you re-sync. This caught a few teachers off guard and the teachers did not realize the comments were missing til later. It was frustrating as the comments were for various missing assignments and trying to remember which assignment which student turned in late 3 or 4 weeks ago well...
I also want to reiterate that when making assignments one must make sure the Post to SIS box is checked. Usually the students are good at finding errors but make sure to double check the transfer of grades. Syncing sometimes is quick and other times it is just good to check after a good cup of coffee.
Feel free to ask questions if you have any.
I wish there was an option on the admin side to auto check the post to SIS button for everyone without customizing the javascript
Something like this should work for that by the way.
<script>
$('#assignment_post_to_sis').prop('checked', true);
</script>
I wish on the SIS integration there was a way to validate grades. Push validate, show grades in the canvas gradebook vs SIS, green rows for good, red for bad. Repost and edit scores button on the bad rows to fix issues.
Hello Janet -
Here is a link to a set of teacher tips that I have compiled for our staff. I have this posted in Canvas, inside a "Technology" course that all the teachers are students of. We use this "course" for training and also a place to share information. Hope this helps and its not too late......
